“I’ve been commanded to inform you that our new lord, Rezzhaxthenarin demands tribute to his queen, Tiamat. Should we reach 600k likes for the page by GenCon’s end on Sunday night, he will allow us to reveal his magnificent Red Dragon self from the Monster Manual to the world. Oh, and he also assures us we will not be eaten should we meet his demands. So please, share with your friends and let’s get this tyrant what he wants!”

Blurb – Gen Con Previews!

One thing you can be certain of is that a lot of companies like to hold off showing the public stuff so they can have a big reveal at Gen Con. So I have seen two so far one is for the Pathfinder and Obsidian pairing that you can see on a previous blog.

And this next one!

Blurb – Those Gen Con Blues!

On the eve of Gen Con 2014 I sit back and think of all the fun I have had at this convention in the past. I have had the privilege to make that journey 8 or so times and each and everytime I have had a blast and made a lot of friends and played a lot of games!

This year it was not meant to be and I will not lie, I am a bit bummed that I am not in Indy this weekend. I will live vicariously through those that are and go to my local gaming store and hang out with my fellow nerds that could not go as well.

We do have a virtual solution and you can head over to www.geeknative.com and learn about Anti Gen Con. It is pretty awesome idea allowing those of us stuck at home to connect to other gamers on Gen Con weekend. Also you can go to Twitter and see all the fun some us folks are having with #GenCant2014. If you want you can join in on the fun and enter to win a couple of prizes (details can be found here).

Thanks Chris Cormier for this awesome graphic and it just sums up how much it sucks that I could not make Gen Con on it’s 40th anniversary.

My parting words are this…gather up some friends this weekend and play a bunch of games or support your local gaming store by gaming there.

Later Nerds!

RPG – 5E: Monster – Tarrasque & The Sphinx!

Wizards of the Coast will release it second Core Rule book the Monster Manual on September 30th 20014. Which monsters did they decided to give us a peek at… well only one of the most iconic monsters of all time (sorry Flumphs) the Tarrasque and one of the most sacred the Sphinx!

I never met a more formidable and terrifying creature in my role-playing career and from what I can see in the picture and stats this has not changed.

If this is what they are starting us off with I am way excited to see what they are keeping to themselves.

Until next time Nerds!

TV – Outlander

I have read most of Diana Gabaldon’s books in this series so when I heard Starz was creating a show based on the books I was very intrigued. What attracted me to the story was the time travel aspect with a bit of paganism (albeit small) thrown into the mix. Oh did I mention men in Kilts (admittedly most are nothing to look at…)?

Clair and Frank
Clair and Frank

The story takes place (in the beginning) a few months after World War II in 1945. Clair Randell and her husband Frank go on holiday to Scotland to reconnect after they had been apart during the war. They arrive at Inverness just before Samhain (Halloween) and spy on a pagan ritual (dancing only, no blood sacrifices here) being performed at a stone circle. Clair decides to visit the standing stones again to collect some flowers she saw the night before, but when she does she is teleported back in time and find herself in 1743 when she touches one of the stones.

She must get her barrings and adapt quickly to survive so she can make it back to the standing stones and return to her husband in 1945. However there are things that stand against her, one is her husband’s ancestor Jack Randell and the other is her heart as she slowly falls in love with Jamie a curly red head Scotsman (who look good in a kilt).

The show debuted on August 9th and I had to say I have already watched it 3 times. It does the books justice (if my memory recalls the books correctly) and at the end it leaves you wanting more.

Well done Starz and the cast and crew!

I cannot wait for the next episode!
